Oftentimes, members ask about liability insurance. And they should! In today’s litigious society, having insurance protects you. Plus, some wedding venues are now requiring it.
Previously, we covered the different types of liability insurance and what each offers. At that time, membership was polled. In addition, we discussed the importance of insurance. Now, in this second article, we are providing specific resources to help our members secure coverage.

Annual Insurance Coverage
Getting insurance coverage for the entire year is a typical business expense. Once you have it, you won’t need to think about it until it is time to renew. If you pursue an annual plan, make sure the policy includes 3rd party insurance certificates without additional charge. This is the documentation that the venues are asking for.
Typically, insurance providers don’t offer marriage officiants coverage. Consequently, JPus researched and identified a broker to provide this service. He did the legwork to develop a plan specific to marriage officiants. The annual rates listed are approximate.
- Professional Liability Insurance (aka Errors & Omissions) ~ $488/year
- General Liability Insurance ~ $250/year for $2/4,000,000 coverage. Adding professional liability increases the rate to approximately $615-655.
Each policy is customized for that individual. Contact Peter for more information.

One-Day Event Insurance
Thimble offers general and professional liability insurance by the day, month or year – or whatever duration you are looking for. When getting a quote, “Marriage Officiant” is not an option. Instead, “Event Speaker” seems to be the best fit. Fees are based on zip codes. In Connecticut the fee was $33 for a 24 hour period or $40 for an entire weekend.
